Dudelange: The first ever team from Luxembourg to make a European Group Stages

The small club from the small country of Luxembourg will leave the San Siro tonight with no points to show but a growing confidence in their ability to face off against top tier European opposition.

Football in Luxembourg has been growing slowly but surely in the past 10 years with infamous victories like Differdange beating Red Bull Salzburg and Progres beating Rangers of Scotland. Tonight Dudelange came mightily close to inflicting one of the most embarrassing results of recent years as they lead AC Milan 2-1 at their own ground, however professionalism ended up favoring the Serie A side.

Dudelange have made history becoming the first side from Luxembourg to reach a European group stage ever and have enjoyed competing against Real Betis, AC Milan & Olympiakos even despite picking up no points so far. This year acts as a benchmark as clubs in Luxembourg look to build on this and become European group stage regulars. Clubs like Racing and Progres have shown that intent by linking up with big clubs in France and qualifying for Europe. The national team have also enjoyed success in recent years going as far as to tie with the world champions France in 2017.

While it may seem like a bullet dodged by Milan, Dudelange can keep their heads high as they lead the way for Luxembourg to keep achieving on the European stage.
